This Is American Soccer, US Soccer, MNT, WNT, and MLS - Tackling the subject of Soccer in the US, and worldwide.

in so many words

It’s the U20 world cup. Lets not get carried away.

But it’s a great salve for an um, unfortunate?, two weeks for the US MNT. We just beat Brazil!

Yes. And already fans are crying. Adu! Altidore! Zizzo?

Freddy’s footwork in the last two games is something we haven’t seen in US Soccer in a long time. I mean, who was Brazil - joga bonita - out there?

No doubt he looked good, but the US touch is as dodgey for the U20’s as it is on the men’s team. Guys were tripping over balls without a challenge, passing to nowhere. I didn’t see that out of the Brazilian players.

Well, Altidore could step in and replace Eddie Johnson tomorrow.

Hard to argue with that.

Adu too!

At this point, the more competition for roster spots the better, and it’s getting congested. Maybe Freddy gets a call up for one of the next MNT friendlies. I can only guess Bob Bradley goes through the rest of the year as if it’s a try-out, so it’s possible, and depending on how this world cup ends up, he might deserve a reward.

He doesn’t need a reward, just a chance to play his game with quality teammates. He never got that chance in DC, and his RSL support isn’t much. Have we ever seen that?

In the U17 world cup?

Exactly.

Exactly.

What?

It’s the U17 World Cup. Meanwhile, he’s quiet as a door mouse in MLS.

Altidore has provided for Red Bull. He might be the next US transfer in a couple of years.

If he follows through in MLS. Juan Pablo Angel should get a cut of the fee if and when he does leave. But what are we talking about? A few nice plays? Chris Seitz is the only reason they won the game.

Amazing!

He exemplified the reasons Keller should retire. While balls at times seemed to find him as if a magnet, his reflexes proved this is a young man’s game, even at goal keeper.

What, no jab about his performance coming in the mediocre U20 game?

Well, it’s not like Kaka or Ronaldinho were firing shots.

Fine. I can’t win. Just let me be happy. That was a great game.

I’m trying, in so many words.

Quality match, fierce competition and as u20 goes, world-class. You don’t find such class in many US footballing matches such as tonights. Expectations have been truly risen about this class of u20 world-cuppers, I’m just anxious to see if Bradley or anyone in the country noticed besides die-hards. A sign of good things to come.

sure there was some sloppy play, but this is a team that has me repeatedly on my feet, and excited to watch u.s. jerseys on the pitch. i wish i could say so much about their elders… a sign of good things to come indeed.

I hope that European clubs/managers are keeping their eyes on this tournament, because the boys need to get out of the States for us to have a bright future—ironic, but true. The potential is undeniably there, but they won’t get anything out of playing in the MLS (where some are now and where the college kids will most likely settle otherwise)—even moving to non-prolific European clubs will do them good (e.g. Feilhaber and Bradley).

Bradley and the other US Soccer idiots won’t bring Adu and Altidore up, even if they win this tournament. I can guarantee it. Steve Ralston and the other over-the-hill MLS journeymen are the players they want. Adu will end up playing with Ghana. And at that point I will burn my US Soccer gear.

Can it be the case that Adu realizes that front office soccer people in Europe actually watch the U-20 WC as opposed to Real Salt Lake matches? I wouldn’t blame him for wanting to go play over there, where at least he will get a chance to develop into a creative midfielder, rather than being forced to play out of position on the left side of the field.

Going to Europe and sitting on the bench or being used only in the training squad is worse than playing full time in MLS. Unless a US player gets serious minutes on the playing field in Europe, he is better off, for the time being, playing in MLS.

altidore…………looked real good.

Don’t think he would sit the bench in Europe at this point. I think he could find a mid-table club in Holland, Germany, or a newly promoted club in the Prem. I’ve stuck by MLS for a long-time, but after watching several matches this summer, I realize that the league is just bad. Crap defending, team’s unable to hold on to posession for more than two or three passes, “stroll into my penalty area and score” goals. Yeah, Adu is much better over here.

i for one think that was one of the most entertaining u.s. soccer matches in a while, i also think that our youth program is improving, but there is one gaping hole, the cost. i am a 14 year old youth player, and i have been asked to join a few super y teams, but i just couldnt afford it, im forced to play for my mediocre club team and varsity team, which is somewhat better then the club team, but the competetion is still not up to par. i would love to be playing somewhere where i can actually learn, instead of learning the same things over and over again. now dont get me wrong, im not trying to write a heart breaking story about a kid who doesnt have enough money,im not trying to gain anyones sympathy, but seriously with the cost of uniform, cleats, league fees, traveling fees, and to top it all of coaching fees, its just too much. i even tried to get a part time job, but i didnt have enough time with my school work and all. if the fees were just a little lower,id bet ud see a lot more games like this one
