This Is American Soccer, US Soccer, MNT, WNT, and MLS - Tackling the subject of Soccer in the US, and worldwide.

clear and future danger

So, you’ve heard by now. Bob Bradley is the new coach. After the jump are the three opinions you need to read and my personal reactions, that I hope inspire everyone to think critically about the future, whether you agree with me or not. I add this last statement, because it is this greater opinion that I believe USSF has turned away from, closing their doors - not unlike another controversial president in this nation.

First, check out these reactions from Jeff Carlisle, Ives Galarcep, and David Hirshey, three men who know what they are talking about, yet come up with some opposing viewpoints.

As USSF has apparently been for the last 10 months, I’m on the fence. Would it mean more for the US MNT to win a World Cup (or some other big international tournament) with an American coach. Probably, and we probably got the best available. But I’m not one of those patriots who thinks that should be a requirement. I want the best players and coaches in american soccer, no matter their nationalities. Did we get that with Bob Bradley? I don’t think we did.

We got a great coach, but there is no shortage of great coaches, not worldwide anyhow, and given the potential the American market exhibits, there’s no doubt in my mind that something is amiss here.

That being said, it’s our players, I believe, who will win us a World Cup, but it’s our coaches who deliver those players, and that has very little to do with the present incarnation of the US MNT. Thus, I will be watching closely for that improvement, more so than victories for the time being. Did anyone pay attention to what was happening in Rochester last night?

I will, however, continue to live and die with our team, and Bradley’s 3-0-1 record means nothing to me in that regard. Life and Death come when something is on the line, and as such I will get a first whiff of success or failure this summer from Bradley’s hire, as our men compete in the Gold Cup and Copa America. If they return home defeated, I fear Bradley will be too in the court of public (and professional) opinion. And then what?
