This Is American Soccer, US Soccer, MNT, WNT, and MLS - Tackling the subject of Soccer in the US, and worldwide.

the barometer

A busy week for scheduling updates has the barometer poised from some serious changes (or maybe just a whole lot of nothing) in the next week or so. Ives Galarcep makes his case for getting meaning out of the US v Denmark game this weekend. Look for Bob Bradley’s stomach acid content to be in serious flux. His coaching will be overly scrutinized, something Jeff Carlisle wishes wasn’t so.

Looking even farther down the line, Mexico has set its line-up for the Feb 7th game in Arizona (nothing friendly about that game or location. Won’t lie, kind of nervous about that one). But the future is still bright, as seen by the strong performances of our U20 MNT, which can be followed with the usual mass of material from US Soccer.

But that’s not why I’m here. As I mentioned earlier, I’d rather highlight the best writing - too many other places do a much better job than me if news is what you’re after - of which there was precious little this week. The storm of Beckham news brought precious little but disgust, but it was all worth it because we got our man back for a couple of days. Grant Wahl, as usual, has the well-crafted and entertaining inside story. Follow along with Grant as he followed the mad mad mad life of Tim Leiweke, the president and CEO of the Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns the Galaxy, as he went sleepless trying to work out the blockbuster deal. Great Stuff!
