This Is American Soccer, US Soccer, MNT, WNT, and MLS - Tackling the subject of Soccer in the US, and worldwide.

Freedom fighting, writing, biding time until the next explosion of thought, pain, anger, love - needed to be cultivated and palpated - perfecting my very nature - in spiritual rhyme and verse. Impregnated with knowledge and wisdom, so as not to aggravate or confuse, but to elaborate and allocate the education of my oppression, my freedom. Let emotion spill unto this page and remain resplendent, protected from the misgivings of my humanity. Enraptured in this beauty I stray not or dare tempt the worst part of my being. Careful here too, before we speak. Know too what we say, and be it true, or for us to rue the misspoken future. In verse, I find the perspective from oppression, and the passion for freedom. I find them both in my life, too, in everything I that I do, in all that I see. I write, I work, so that I shall never forget this, so that no one will ever forget this, and so that you come to know there is so much more than you, so much more than me, so much more than we - or whatever it is you think I mean.

Barcelona 2; Arsenal 1

I wanted to leave it with just that. I didn’t want to get into my favorite keeper getting tossed and whether he made the right move tripping that guy. I didn’t want to talk about the excitement of Sol -wasn’t going to play- Campbell’s perfect header from Henry’s perfect cross. I didn’t want to talk about Henry talking strategy with his coach from the pitch while Reyes sat on the bench. I didn’t want to talk about Arsenal’s near perfect 17 minutes and 38 seconds. I didn’t want to talk about going one-up on Barca one-down on the field. I didn’t want to talk about the rain and how it helped everything literally slip away. I didn’t want to talk about the moustache on Arsenal’s back-up keeper or the two goals he should have saved (you never let them beat you on the near side. You guard the *%&#! post). I didn’t want to talk about all the missed chances Arsenal had. And I didn’t want to talk about how the team I have followed for as long as I can remember, from a country I have never been to, playing against a team from another country I have never been to could make me feel this way. So, I won’t.

May 19th:

“I’m staying here with the club that I love.” Some good news out of Arsenal’s camp. Henry verbally commits to remain with the club.

Well not-said. I agree with every point.

i’ve been periodically checking in on your posts since last year and one of things i’ve come to enjoy is the raw emotion found in your words. you had a post a while back about the despair and lack of direction you were feeling in following the beautiful game and while reading it, i felt what you were communicating.

same thing can be said about this post. the match had both the elation of victory and the emptyness of defeat for me. that “Campbell’s perfect header from Henry’s perfect cross” truly was perfect and my reaction mirrored the perfection of the event and the enormity of the game. likewise, upon seeing the official blow the full-time whistle, i was filled with an emptyness that has turned somewhat to anger.

why no advantage and yellowcard?

even worse, why no yellow for either of the barca center backs?

and worse yet, why no off-side on the eto’o shot. it was a save that should never have been needed to be made.

never in all my years watching sports have i been left with such a feeling of emptyness after having watched a game.

thanks for continuing to post here. i truly enjoy reading and traveling along vicariously with you on your journey.

Honestly, I didn’t know who to pull for.

Henry and Ronaldinho are two players that I really love to watch play the game. And I had been pulling for Arsenal and Barca throughout the CL.

But in the end, I was pulling for Arsenal.

And my 4yo son was pulling for Ronaldinho and Barca.

just 3 words ” What A Game”
-the ref sucked
-lehman sent off
-the rain
-the cross that shouldn’t have happened
-and so much more
just
“What A Game”

If it’s any consolation Adam, Thierry Henry is staying in North London.

From one American born die hard Arsenal supporter to another …just think about much sweeter it is going be when the Gunners win the CL next year.

Yeah, I havn’t seen Arsenal play the way they played the first 17 minutes in a LONG time. It was beyond Beautiful. good points too….

-Lehmann should of only got Yellow on Advantage rule

-Eto’s goal was ovbiouslly offsides

-Henry got Yellow for BEING kicked

-Barca should of had 2 yellows for tackles on Ljungberg

-Arsenal should of scored when they had the chance

I totally agree with how you feel. I’m actually a Chelsea fan (I know, I know), but here in Davis, CA at the Graduate (a local bar) there was so much passion, and when Arsenal fell, my friends and I fell with them. I’ve never experienced anything quite like it before. There were as many people in the sports bar as there would be for an NFL Sunday split fairly evenly between Arsenal and Barca fans. And when Barca scored that second goal and all of the Spanish international students started singing Barca songs my heart sank as much as it does when I watch my beloved Chargers or Padres lose a big game. I can’t wait for the World Cup.

Nice post. It sucks, but at least in not talking about all those unpleasant aspects of the game you didn’t have to talk about: the ref could have awarded Barcelona advantage (and the goal) AND sent off Lehmann; that Eboue, already carrying one yellow, dove shamelessly (hell, even Wenger apologized for it) and should have been sent off, instead of earning the free kick that resulted in the only Arsenal goal. It hurts, dude (I cursed Chelski during last year’s CL quartefinal against Barça) but no way the Gunners deserved to win this game. Barça are the best team in Europe this year and, even without Henry, will probably remain so…

This is the first time I’ve visited and am a massive Gooner. It’s that we because my in-laws are Arsenal. I gave my little boy, Max, the middle name of Overmars when he was born in 1999 in Honolulu. We live in Virginia now. I went with my sis-in-law to the Champs League Final. Can I send a pic and my story of the trip over?
