NY Red Bulls face off against the Navy’s USS Roosevelt to help kick-off Fleet Week

A celebration of the U.S. Armed Forces held around Memorial Day in New York, Fleet Week offered up one of the best PR events Red Bull has ever held and a precious photo opportunity. Under blazing sun cut by the riverside breeze, the teams played two small-sided games on the flight deck of the former USS Intrepid, (now a museum) which sits docked along the Hudson River on the west side of midtown Manhattan.

Sadly few fans turned out for the weekday afternoon event, but TIAS was there…

not exactly bum-rushed walking down the street

public elevator to the flight deck

—-

the banner didn’t last long in the riverside wind

—-

the mid-day sun didn’t provide the best light for photos, but a well-placed                                          control tower helped here - Top Gun might be pushing it though

—-

this event might be the best idea Red Bull marketers have ever had…

but I wish Travis Pastrana had jumped out of the Red Bull helicopter that circled overhead

ball boys; certainly soccer balls are not the weirdest thing NYPD has pulled from the Hudson River

Good times man, always glad to lend a helping lens. Too true about the marketing, seemed like bystanders/Intrepid visitors were in attendance versus actual notified fanbase.

What a coincidence! I’m going to Austin over the weekend to see my friends from the TR. I haven’t seen them since 2003. I wish we made a port visit in NYC while I was stationed on “The Big Stick”. All we got were three freakin wars.

Wait a second! That’s not the TR. And the team they played were probably from the smallboy named “Roosesvelt”. Nevermind. :/
